The Sanskrit word "Vastu" means "dwelling". "Vastu" refers to the space that fills that form or dwelling. The dwelling and the space within the form are intimately connected and affect each other. ("shastra" means both "sacred text" and "science").

Vastu is an integral architectural concept based on the Hindu Veda texts. It is the ancient Hindu system for organizing the spaces in which we live and work for optimum harmony.

Since millennia, houses, temples, and even whole cities are built by this concept in India. Its basis are the natural laws of spatial/cosmic energy, and is used to bring the living space in harmony with nature and its inhabitants. The house is like humans´s second body. The living space´s quality influences the physical, mental, emontional and spiritual status of humans.

Being in sacred space reminds us of our true nature and brings us back to center, giving us the support we need in this world full of stress and uncertainty. Our environments are extensions of our inner self: they have the potential to nourish our soul's expression. Steps can be taken that enhance our connection with inner peace and joy. An authentic Vastu consultant can serve as your guide.

Vastu aligns placement with what is most in tune with the five elements and energies of nine directions (North, South, East, West, NW, NE, SW, SE, and the Center). Joining your intention with the natural effects of earth energies and cosmic forces, such as the sun and the flow of energy throughout your home, produces the most beneficial results. As evident, the moon's influence is powerful enough to create tides in the ocean, imagine the effect of your home's being in harmony with the universal principles of nature instead of out of the ideal alignment.

Vastu Purusha Mandala is the main blueprint for Vastu homes. It is a square with a minimum of nine sections representing the nine directions of north, south, east, west, northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest, and the center. The centre is formed by a square made of four squares, which corresponds to the Brahmasthana, the place of Brahma. At this location the divine energy is so strong that it is not suitable for people to live there. Each direction has its particular properties which, when properly honored, facilitate transforming any space into one that feels and looks better, that is more supportive of fulfilling our desires for peace, prosperity, health, and happiness. The Vastu Purusha Mandala represents the harmonious union of divine elements. This creates a lively, balanced wholeness. Honoring the environment and nature is always a sacred acknowledgement.

The five elements in the Vedic system are earth, air, fire, water, and space. Each of these is energetically associated with a particular direction. Earth (bhumi) with the southwest; air (vayu) with the northwest; fire (agni) with the southeast; and water (jala) with the northeast. Space (akaasha) is the center of the architectural form and in the center of each room. There are ideal placement of rooms and their functions, furniture, and other personal items in order to have the most positive effect, which result into such things as how well you sleep and how abundant your cash flow is.

When we choose a site for home/office there are many points to consider like---
    1. Site Slope--The general slope of the site is an important factor. Sloping down to the East, North East or North is considered to be beneficial.
    2. What materials to use--The use of natural material enhances the health and energy of a space

Sometimes, it so happens that the we, humans, does acts, out of ignorance, which harm us and their remedy seems impossible. Here, I am giving few tips as solutions to such problems where houses are constructed against the rules of Vastu -Shastra.

There are certain rules which can not be followed strictly. In such cases it might create problems. For such situations we can implement some work arounds/solutions.

    Important Tips
    1. Cactus, throny plants and plants which release milky juice when fractured/cut should not be planted or kept in the house.
    2. All the doors should open inside so that the energy may remain inside.
    3. The hinges of doors should be noiseless. If so. The hinges may be greased periodically.
    4. The doors should open towards right hand.
    5. Bed should not be put under a beam on the roof.
    6. There should not be five corners in the ceiling of a room.
    7. Efforts should be made a leave the rooms open on North-East side.
    8. While ascending the staircase, the face should be either towards the north or the east.
    9. The seat of the toilet should face North-South.
    10. No doors or windows should be provided on South-West side.
    11. Almirahs and beds should be set very close to the South - West wall and at a distance from the north - east wall.
    12. While drinking water keep your face towards North-East.
    13. In the South-West Corner of the house one should sleep pointing his head towards south.
    14. "Angels don't like dirt!". I have noticed that cleaning revs up the energy in a room.
    15. South-East: No bedroom should be located in this direction. The children do not take interest in studies. There is no sound sleep. People have much anger. Decisions are generally taken hurriedly.
    16. Toilet: -According to Vastu principles, Toilets and Bathroom should be situated separately
    17. Never build toilets in the direction of eastern corner or at "Ishan angle".
    18. Garages: It should be in the South-East or North-West corner but load on North and East Walls be kept at the minimum.
    19. Kitchen: -The kitchen must be situated in fire angle, i.e. in South-East. The face of the cook should be towards the East. The water tap in kitchen should be in the North-East direction. It is better if the stone on which food is cooked, is of red colour.
    20. Open Space: In every plot more open space should be kept in North, East and North-East than in South and West.
    21. Place of Worship: This is the place from where good ideas flow. it should be in the North-East.
    22. Windows: These should be opposite to the doors so that both the positive and negative cycles could be completed. This provides happiness and progress to the family.
      1. We have often seen that at many places construction has been done against the principles of Vastu and no improvement is possible without demolition. At such places,we do some experiments, which have proved to be successful. These are stated below:-
      2. If a naked wall is seen while entering into a flat, then either a picture or a statue of Ganeshji should be placed there. The naked wall is the sign of loneliness. Hence, the wall should not be kept naked. A scenary showing open space can also be put on the wall.
      3. In certain cases, energy circles can be improved by using Swastika Yantra/sign. But, this requires a lot of care. This should be handled under the supervision of an able Vastu Consultant.
